In addition, bumper plates are a quieter and safer choice for your gym.

How do I build a home gym?
Building a home gym from scratch can be overwhelming but also very rewarding once it is completed. To start, we recommend figuring out what types of lifts you will be doing, measure and decide how much space you will need, and set your budget. Once those are established, you can start looking for equipment. All home gyms need some type of rack, a barbell, a set of weights and a bench. Depending on your style or type or training, you might find a certain type of rack, weights and bar fit your needs the best.
How does home gym equipment compare to commercial equipment?
Home gym equipment differs from commercial gym equipment in several ways. Commercial equipment is made for repetitive, high-volume usage and is often made from thicker steel and higher tolerance materials resulting in smoother operation and more stability. Commercial equipment also requires lots of space while home gym equipment is built for multi-functional usage and space savings designs. The biggest difference is price. Commercial equipment costs between 2-10x more than home gym equipment and specifically designed for businesses.
Can you mix and match gym equipment brands?
Yes, most gym equipment manufacturers use standardized specs for barbells, plates, and racks. You do need to be careful when finding rack attachments, upright post size and hole spacing may differ between products and/or brands. Most companies will clearly identify upright size, hole size and spacing on racks and their attachments so you can easily match which products will work with your setup.
